Associate ProfessorI study ancient Greek philosophy (esp. Aristotle’s ethics), contemporary virtue ethics, Japanese philosophy (esp. Japanese virtue ethics), and applied ethics (esp. neuroethics and space ethics). Through these studies, I investigate the notion of virtue and its contemporary significance.
Recent Topics of Interests:
I am recently focusing on the Japanese notion of virtue. Although virtue is an ancient notion embraced by both Eastern and Western philosophies, it takes an interesting form in Japan. Japanese intellectual history has been influenced by Shintoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Christianity. Accordingly, the Japanese notion of virtue includes these values in one way or another. In fact, some Japanese philosophers have struggled to harmonize these values. I think that looking through Japanese notion of virtue can help us develop a new perspective on the notion of virtue.

ProfessorMy main research topic is “plant genetic resources,” including landraces and their wild relatives. I have conducted field surveys and characterization of the plant genetic resources for future conservation and utilization. For the field survey, various countries have been focused on, such as India, Nepal, and Malaysia.
In recent years, I have been working in the field of education and developing model lessons focusing on plant genetic resources with foreign collaborators. As the plant genetic resources, I am focusing on the crops which are familiar in Chiba and foreign countries.
Recent Topics of Interests:
To develop model lessons focusing on plant genetic resources, which are applicable not only to schools in Japan but also in foreign countries.

Professor We are conducting research on the preparation and evaluation of solid dispersion formulations, nanoparticle formulations, and self-emulsifying formulations with the aim of improving the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs. Our focus is on clarifying drug elution and membrane permeation mechanisms from these formulations at the molecular level, contributing to formulation development.
The formulation and physical property evaluation technology in our laboratory is also applied to various fields, including food, cosmetics, and agrochemical-related industries.
Recent Topics of Interests:
Examining the relationship between physical properties of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations in COVID-19 vaccines and their therapeutic effects and side effects

Tenure Track Associate ProfessorI am collaborating with the Institute of Fruit Tree and Tea Science, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, to conduct research aimed at developing efficient breeding methods for fruit trees using genomic information. Specifically, I am working on the development of a method called genomic selection (GS), which predicts the characteristics of future fruits, such as pericarp color and fruit weight, at the seedling stage, enabling early selection.
Recent Topics of Interest:
I am interested in researching how to extract essential information from big data, such as genomes and images, and how to utilize this information for the breeding of fruit trees.

Assistant ProfessorI specialize in the study of 17th-century Italian paintings, with a primary focus on the works of Artemisia Gentileschi, one of the most famous female painters of those days. My research delves into her activities in Naples, including her professional strategies, client relationships, and influence on other regional artists. Additionally, I have a keen interest in biographies of female artists from the same era and in portraitures, including self-portraits by female painters.
Recent Topics of Interest:
Naples paintings, Biographies of female artists, Portraiture (Self-portraits)

ProfessorI am conducting research on human perceptual-cognitive processes and the characteristics of KANSEI (aesthetics) using experimental psychological methods. In particular, I am investigating the characteristics of the time and space that humans can directly perceive and interact with. My research goal is to understand the mental aspect of time and space to the extent that I can manipulate them as I intended.
Recent Topics of Interests:
The psychological basis of slow motion experiences (tachypsychia phenomenon) that are perceived during accidents such as traffic accidents, collisions, and falls.
The perceived time during the “Zone” or “Flow” experience.
The development of communication methods and strategies for avoiding potential dangers using perceptual illusions and cognitive biases.
The potential of psychology in addressing the measurement problem in observation.

ProfessorMy research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms by which plants produce a diverse range of compounds that can serve as medicines or poisons. By studying the genetic aspects of catalytic enzymes involved in substance production, regulatory factors, and proteins responsible for substance transport and self-resistance, I aim to shed light on the evolutionary pathways in this process.

ProfessorMy primarily area of focus is coding theory, which is known as the theory of error correction. As humans, we are skilled at estimating and restoring original information, even in the presence of mishearing or misspelling―essentially, error correction. My research involves mathematically describing the conditions under which error correction is possible and developing algorithms to correct errors.
Recent Topics of Interest:
I am interested in situations where information is shortened due to errors, with missing elements, yet I strive to restore the original data. This challenge has been a global problem tackled since the 1960s. Furthermore, I am developing methods to rectify missing information in scenarios involving planar arrangements, such as array-type designed codes, as well as in the context of future technologies like quantum computing and quantum communication.

Hobby / Holiday:
I watch movies or TV dramas almost every day. I prefer to watch movies in a theater, especially those that leave a strong impact on my mind. As for TV dramas, I like suspense or horror from Nordic, Korean, or American productions. Alternatively, I play and sing songs I loved during my student days on the ukulele.
