ProfessorI am researching the role of landscape in enhancing the interaction between human activities and the natural environment. Specifically, I am exploring how landscape can shape this relationship in urban spaces, preserve green spaces in development projects, and contribute to land-use strategies that mitigate the impact of natural disasters. Ultimately, I aim to improve the connection between human activities and the natural environment through innovative landscape initiative approach aspects.
Recent Topics of Interest:
I am interested in green space policy and land use management, river basin flood control, resident consensus buildings, and landscape governance. Specifically, I am examining new disaster prevention and post-disaster planning approach in response to the high incidence of disasters associated with climate change in recent years. Additionally, I am also exploring the issue of gender in spatial planning.

Hobby / Holiday: Jazz piano (as I haven’t had much time to practice, it’s a “half wish.” I will work hard from now on!)

ProfessorI am researching microorganisms that "breathe" unusual substances such as iodine, arsenic, and antimony. I am interested in unraveling the key enzymes of these microorganisms and exploring their bio-remediation functions. Additionally, I am intrigued by understanding the dominance mechanisms of microorganisms in fermented foods and exploring the associated control mechanisms.
Recent Topics of Interest:
I am interested in applied research focused on anaerobic fermentative bacteria, exploring their capacities for producing organic acids and facilitating metal reduction, to utilize their functions for practical applications.
Motto in Research or in Life:
Go with the flow, trust my instincts, and head towards what brings joy without overplanning.
Hobby / Holiday:
Watching movies, Working out, Swimming

Associate ProfessorOne of the key relationships among living organisms is the predator-prey relationship.
While it is often assumed that prey are simply consumed by predators, they actually coexist with predators in nature. My research delves into the fascinating realm of how prey manages to coexist with predators and other organisms in their ecosystem, with a particular focus on acarids.
Recent Topics of Interests:
I am interested in the concepts of brood parasitism, cooperative conservation, and predator-prey dynamics, and predator-prey role reversals.
Motto in Research or in Life:
I’m trying to conduct research that’s easily understandable, even for those without advanced prior knowledge.

ProfessorI am conducting research to clarify the biological defense functions of food components such as the suppression of chronic inflammation and the improvement of lipid metabolism, and their molecular mechanisms. My focus is on fermentable indigestible polysaccharides and phytochemicals that improve a healthy gut environment. Since chronic inflammation is a major contributor to the development of various diseases, I aim to prevent dementia and lifestyle-related diseases by elucidating the functions and mechanisms of food components that prevent inflammation.
Recent Topics of Interest:
The relationship between food components and the gut-brain axis. It has become clear that the intestinal environment also affects brain function. My research suggests that certain food components may modulate brain inflammation by improving the gut environment. In the future, I aim to investigate the underlying mechanisms in greater detail.

ProfessorI aim to realize a sustainable society by using digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to understand how landscapes influence people's happiness.
I am also pioneering new areas of landscape planning that are more attuned to people's hearts—including reconstruction plans for the Great East Japan Earthquake and consensus-building through citizen participation.
Recent Topics of Interest:
• Landscape evaluation using AI and its potential contribution to urban planning and environmental policy.
• Establishing quantitative evaluation methods for the well-being generated by green infrastructure.
• Landscape design of memorials and the role of citizen participation in the disaster recovery process.
• Consensus-building processes that foster people's attachment to specific places and help create sustainable communities.
